Preface

Reading, Writing and Transcription of Shorthand Script are 3 essential elements for success in Stenography. This Book has been prepared for proper guidance of learners and speedwriters. The First Part of the Book gives additional Short-Forms used in Simple (Pitman) Shorthand, which is an approved Text-Book for all Courses by the Govt. of India. Modifications or

additions have been made after thorough Research & Experimentation, Teaching, Evaluation of SSC / UPSC Transcription Scripts and wide experience in Parliamentary Reporting at high speeds. However the Alternative outlines used in Pitman's Shorthand and various Shorthand Magazines have also been given for their learners. Slow Speed Exercises for beginners have been given for refreshing Speed-writing of Basic theory of Shorthand up to Halving & Doubling Principles. Additional Simple Contractions, Words and Phrases with their alternate outlines used in Shorthand Magazines have been given for proper guidance of students.

Part II gives Reading & Speed-writing Exercises of 60 to 72 W.P.M. of 5-6 minutes to increase Speed and Accuracy. Transcribe these in time and assess your Accuracy and Speed to rectify Errors of various types. Alternative Outlines / Phrases used in different Magazines, have also been given.

Part III of the Book gives 1100 Basic Phrases formed by Logograms, Grammalogues and Contractions; Monetary Units along with some Official and Advance Phrases essential for increasing Speed and Accuracy.

Part IV gives Reading, Speed-Writing and Dictation-Transcription Exercises of 80 w.p.m. for 5 minutes each for Certificate Courses of I.T.., Jan Shikshan Sansthan, Vocational Courses of CBSE. NOS etc. or Polytechnic Diploma & University Degree Courses. The Passages have been edited in such a way that two Exercises can be joined for writing 10 minutes' Dictations for the Recruitment Tests of SSC/UPSC/RSC/Banking Services Recruitment Board, LIC, DESU or Public Sector Undertakings etc.

Part V gives Audio Dictation Test & Transcription Exercises for 80 W.P.M. for testing the speed and accuracy of learners for self-assessment. Shorthand Script (Key) of these has been given at the end.

Model Speed Dictations in 4 Volumes (Subject-wise) for 100 W.P.M. and above are available for aspirants of Grade C Stenographers' and Assembly / Parliamentary. Reporters Examinations with Audio - Dictation Cassettes for self-practice and self-assessment of Speed & Accuracy.
